Dental Marketing Case Study: 549% ROI for $2000/month

You want to boost your dental marketing but don’t know anyone who can help you? Perhaps you don’t trust marketing companies advertising on Facebook or Google?

Well, you’re in luck!

Our dental marketing agency is not only one of the best ones on the market, but we also have an extensive dental marketing case study to back up our claims.

Let’s check our track record together.

(DISCLAIMER: As we value our client’s confidentiality, we’ll replace his real name with an alias.)

Dr. Johnson, DDS is one of our bigger clients. Before he gave us a shot, he had worked with a rival web design company that was meant to improve his dental website. Over the course of 3 years, he invested a total of $22,000 in his site.

According to Dr. Johnson, each year, he got around 10 new patients. Each one of them brought him a short-term profit of $500, which barely helped him cover the costs.

Let’s dive in numbers a bit more.

So, the dental marketing company charged Dr. Johnson $300/ month. This fee was mostly for software that the dentist didn’t even use.

His new site cost him $3,500. The marketing agency littered his site with duplicate content and copied stock photos.

Actually, around 95% of the website’s content was copied from his competition. As if this wasn’t bad enough, the inexperienced dental marketers advertised Dr. Johnson as a… musician.

The result was numerous negative Google reviews that harmed Dr. Johnson’s business in the long-run.

The good dentist has finally had enough!

On January 1, 2018, he decided to give our dental marketing firm a call. What was the result?

Well, we generated a 549% return on investment (ROI) on his dental marketing budget so far.

Here’s exactly how we did it.

1. We started from the top

Here are the 5 steps that we took:

  • We created a brand new, mobile-friendly, fast and easy to navigate dental website
  • We optimized it with SEO in mind (titles, meta descriptions, images, etc.)
  • Created new social media accounts for his practice
  • Started adding high-quality, SEO optimized content on his blog every week
  • All this content was advertised on social media channels strategically in order to reach the target audience

What results did we get?

Website Traffic

  • The conversion rate rose from 0.5 to 4% (this is 8 times more!)
  • We brought more than 1,000 unique visitors to Dr. Johnson’s site every month
  • On average, we generated 20-25 new dental patients each month
  • 20 new patients x $500 average patient value = $10,000+ in average revenue in nominal terms

2. The power of search engine optimization (SEO)

After these initial steps, we started focusing more on dental SEO:

  • After 3 months of strategic SEO efforts, our client’s site entered the 1st page of Google for some of the most important keywords
  • The high-quality organic traffic was the reason for the high conversion rate of 4%
  • Given the stable nature of  SEO traffic, these results persisted and didn’t require significant investments afterward
  • To this day, the traffic from Google represents around 70% of the total traffic that Dr. Johnson’s website gets

3. Local SEO is king

Local SEO is even more essential for small dental offices, given that potential customers seek out dental practices in their vicinity.

  • We managed to rank Dr. Johnson’s clinic in top 3 results in his city
  • As a result, 95% of clients came from within the vicinity
  • Furthermore, our dental client quickly became recognized as one of the top dentists in the region

4. Take advantage of Google Ads

Pay-Per-Click (or PPC) is a type of web promotion where you pay for each click your website gets from Google paid results. Google Ads can be a very powerful weapon in a dentist’s arsenal, but many dental marketers don’t know how to run them properly.

Here’s how we used Dr. Johnson’s marketing budget to get him these great results:

  • We persuaded him to invest $2,000/ month for Facebook advertising and Google Ads
  • Thanks to laser-focused targeting and knowing the ideal buyer persona, we managed to reduce the high cost per click from $6-7 to just $3-4/ per click
  • We also used videos for our Facebook ads (instead of just images) and we saw an immediate increase in the number of clicks and likes, comments and shares
  • Due to the much higher engagement of our Facebook sponsored posts, the average cost-per-click (CPC) has decreased significantly while the click-through-rate (CTR) skyrocketed

5. Master retargeting ads

One of the secrets behind the huge success of Dr. Johnson DDS’ marketing campaign is the retargeting ads we ran for his dental website.

For example, we spend just $45 on Facebook retargeting ads and got him 3 new patients!

In case you’re hearing about retargeting ads for the first time, here’s how they work:

  • Visitors come to your website
  • A web cookie is placed on their browsers
  • From then on, wherever they go your ads are displayed to them on popular websites
  • After they click on some of these ads, they’re taken back to your site

The reason why retargeting ads are much more efficient than traditional ads is that visitors already know your site. They have already visited it once (or more times) and have become more familiar with your brand. It’s not ice-cold advertising anymore.

Retargeting ads can help you close a client much faster than any other type of advertising if done properly. With it, you can bring new dental patients in terms of days instead of weeks or months.

6. Pay attention to online reviews

If you are an experienced dental marketer, you know the importance of online dental reviews. They help every aspect of a business and especially conversions.

We helped Dr. Johnson generate 50 new 5-star reviews in just 3 months in 2 easy steps:

  • We taught his staff how to ask patients for a review in a nice, polite manner
  • We placed CTA (Call-To-Action) buttons on strategic places within his website urging happy clients to leave a positive Google or Facebook review and get a 10% discount from their next dental visit

Super easy, yet SUPER efficient!

What’s going on with Dr. Johnson now?

Well, he still runs a profitable dental clinic, and he even opened another dental office in the same city.

We continue to manage his entire dental marketing to this day and he recommended us to two of his colleagues who we just started working with last month.
